Evening Inventory
Checking accounts at the day's end,
Spot point to uphold or shortfall,
Kindness to stranger, loved one, or friend,
Can I look at the sum of it all?
I'll mention thanks for that which I see,
Is given or gladly attained,
See where I need to clear the debris,
Or hold on to the lesson where gained.
To count those whose needs I am aware,
And those, also, who bless my life,
Recall where God has caused me to fare,
Relieved from peril and strife.
Then, as my day's account is reviewed,
Let go, clear the slate, and move on.
Giving credit where credit is due,
Open a fresh page at the dawn.
